AFTER COMPETING IN CALIFORNIA FOR ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF, HONDO HAS CLIMBED THE SOCIAL RANKS OF THE BBQ SCENE IN CALIFORNIA, WINNING A FEW CHAMPIONSHIPS AND MORE THAN A COUPLE FIRST PLACE FINISHES.
A monumental moment for Hondo was being able to walk the stage at the American Royal in 2017. He was blessed to be a small part of a great team from Texas in his rookie season, which included Ernest Servantes, Fred Robles, Carlo Casanova, and Jay Tinney. The experience with those pitmasters showed Hondo that the sky was the limit as long as he never stopped learning. Utilizing all of their different techniques and putting his own spin to it has propelled his success on the West Coast.
His passion for cooking is what fuels the fire inside of him to better himself and master his craft. And as long as B&B fuels the rest of my BBQ Journey…anything is possible.
GET TO KNOW HONDO HERNANDEZ
When Hondo is at home, he likes to use all of his pits, including but not limited to: Oklahoma Joe, Weber, Kamado, Pit Barrel, Grilla Grills and Pit Boss vault, and Red Box.
When he is on the competition circuit, Hondo likes to use his Pit Barrel, Off Set, and Grilla Grills pellet smoker.
Hondo can cook Tri-tip in his sleep. Growing up on California’s central coast, everyone knows that a great Tri-tip is a must.
With the full support of his wife and kids, Hondo knows the possibilities are endless. He competes when he can, but cooks for his family almost every day.
ABOUT SHOWOFF BBQ
SHOWOFF BBQ was created in 2016 along with Hondo’s two brother-in-laws. They placed 5th overall in their first contest and got bit by the competition bug.
Since then, SHOWOFF BBQ has picked up a few sponsors and they compete every chance they get. They like to cater in their off time, and enjoy all of the great feedback about their food.
GREATEST BBQ ACHIEVEMENT
Hondo’s biggest achievement was winning his first Grand Championship during his rookie season. His team took 1st place Chicken, 2nd place Ribs and 6th place Pork, for Overall Grand Champion.
